Magic Born
Rayanne Haines
(The Guardian Series, #2)
Publication date: June 6th 2018
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Maria Del Voscova is a powerful witch with a past. When she’s asked to become a member of the elite Guardians she knows she can’t risk sharing the truth about her messed-up family. But we don’t always get what we want. Sometimes, we don’t always know what we want.

Though Mar absolutely knows she doesn’t want Neeren, King of the Parthen. She alone sees the darkness in him and it reminds her too much of the past. She knows better than to fall for his stoic, tortured soul façade.

She’s training to be a Guardian, a shadow; tasked with keeping the balance between good and evil in the world. It’s what she wants—to be better than her family was.

But the past has a way of catching up to Mar and the future has a morbid sense of humor. On her first mission, she’s kidnapped by the enemy she’s been running from her entire life. Thankfully the guardians look after their own. As it turns out, so does Neeren.

As Mar finds herself caught between the past and the future; between blood and bond; between the light and the dark, she realizes her only chance at surviving may be in trusting a man who is the most dangerous of them all.

Rayanne thanks for taking the time to answer my questions…  ☺️

  1. How did you choose the names of the characters for Magic Born?

I bounced names of my critique partner. But my hero’s name (Neeren) I knew the minute I heard it on a radio call in show that I HAD to use the name. My heroine is Spanish and is very connected to her ancestors so I needed a traditional name (Maria).

  1. What did you edit out of Magic Born?

So much! Thankfully I have my critique partner to help with the first drafts of the book and my editor through my publishing company for the final edits. She’s very good at helping me determine what is filler and/or would work better in the next books

  1. What was your hardest scene to write?

Fight scenes are the hardest for me because you have to get all the physical movements between different characters right. I think one day I’m still going to take a fight choreography class.

  1. Rayanne reading your bio I saw that you believe in magic. What is Magical about Magic Born?

I think the entire book resonates with magic. My heroine is a powerful witch and my hero is a shifter with the ability to walk into people’s dreams. He can also control water. Maria delves into Magic to save herself and find out the secrets of her past. Her magic also helps Neeren let go of some of the trauma of his past.

  1. What does literary success looks it to you?

A lot like what I’m doing right now. I signed a four-book deal with a small publisher who treats me well and I get to spend most days writing and daydreaming. My other job involves managing a poetry festival and youth literary programs so I’m surrounded by writers. I will say my goal is to be able to write full time.

  1. Rayanne, what is the first book that made you cry?

Oh dear. I cry all the time and I’m in my forties so trying to remember that is going to be impossible. I do know that romance novels have always fed my emotional soul.
